Origin of Wedding Veils

It is common in modern wedding occasions to see a bride wearing a white wedding veil that can set brides off more graceful and lovely, like a white princess coming out of a fairy story with pure and pretty. Do you know the reason why brides wear a wedding veils on their wedding day?
